Boston Globe Spotlight Team
Andrew Ryan joined The Boston Globe’s Spotlight Team in 2017. His previous work for the newspaper included collaborating with a team of reporters and editors in 2012 on a five-part series about the Bowdoin-Geneva neighborhood of Boston. He was part of the metro staff that won the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings. He joined the newspaper in 2006 as a breaking news reporter. In 2010, he became City Hall bureau chief and covered the final term of longtime Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the election of his successor, Mayor Martin J. Walsh.     

Prior to joining the Globe, Ryan wrote for the Associated Press in Boston, covered hurricanes and crime for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, reported for The Day in New London, Conn., and began his career at the Highbridge Horizon in the South Bronx. He has a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor’s degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He lives in South Boston with his wife and two children.
