E.B. Bartels graduated from Columbia University's School of the Arts with an MFA in creative nonfiction writing in 2014. Her essays have appeared in Catapult, Electric Literature, The Rumpus, The Millions, The Toast, The Butter, Ploughshares online, and the anthology The Places We’ve Been: Field Reports from Travelers Under 35, among others. In addition, E.B. writes the monthly column Non-Fiction by Non-Men for Fiction Advocate, in which she interviews cis-women, trans-women, and genderqueer/non-binary people who write nonfiction. E.B. is the author of GOOD GRIEF: ON LOVING PETS, HERE AND HEREAFTER, a hybrid personal/researched nonfiction book about the ways we mourn and remember our pets after they die, forthcoming from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2021.
